NEPS was originally formed in 1988 when its founder, Denise Miano, recognized an emerging need in paper intensive organizations for integrating and automating the document production lifecycle. Miano brought together a team of skilled management and technology professionals. This unique and highly talented team quickly built NEPS into a leader in the document automation industry.

NEPS offered integrated solutions, built on a foundation of enterprise software integrated with "best of breed" off-the-shelf applications. These systems helped many world-leading organizations meet their business objectives while maintaining cost efficiencies and reducing time to installation. The NEPS process ensured the seamless flow of information from creation through fulfillment and distribution. NEPS rapidly grew into an industry leader with a world class customer base and strong industry affiliations. In 1996 NEPS was acquired by Moore Corporation and operated as the Moore Emerging Technology Division.

NEPS resumed its independent status in January 2004, offering specialized content and production management services. In August 2004, NEPS and RR Donnelley (formerly Moore Wallace) reached agreement for NEPS to purchase the assets of RR Donnelley's Enabled Print Solutions team. NEPS re-acquired ownership of its industry-recognized solutions suite and assumed technology maintenance and customer services contracts supporting the existing world-leading customer base.
